United States: On Friday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identified the extremely pathogenic form of bird flu in a person in Oregon.
The index case was related to a previously reported outbreak associated with a commercial poultry operation in the state whereby the virus is confirmed to have affected 150,000 birds, according to the state health authority, as reported by Reuters.
No Human-to-Human Transmission
Definitely, with virus infections affecting poultry and spreading to over 500 dairy herds in the United States this year, 52 people out of the eight states are positive, according to the CDC.
All of the cases were farm workers who had direct exposure to infected animals except one farmer in Missouri.
Authorities did not release more information on the case reported in Oregon but ensured the public that there was no proof of human-to-human transmission of the virus.
Previous Swine Flu Evidence and Ongoing Concerns
This was revealed last month when H5N1 bird flu was found on a pig in a backyard farm in Oregon, which was the first evidence found to testify that Swine in America was carrying the virus.
Ongoing Impact
The CDC has recommended that farm workers who had close contact with birds infected with bird flu should be tested, even without showing any signs of the disease, as reported by Reuters.
Bird flu has killed over 100 million poultry birds in the country’s worst outbreak since 2022.
