United States: New data suggest that with regards to long Covid, young adults are likely to have many more severe consequences than the elderly who are regarded as the most susceptible to the dangerous effects of Covid-19. Dr. Igor Koralnik, who is the leading author of a study that has been published in Annals of Neurology on November 22, noted that younger individuals suffer from more serious neurological symptoms, and this may affect workforce productivity and societal welfare, as reported by HealthDay.

Multiple neurological symptoms and overall disease impact on quality of life.

This type of post COVID can result in neurological problems such as headaches, damage to the senses, blurred vision, anxiety, insomnia, cognitive problems, and fatigue. Such symptoms are universal; however, according to the study, patients below 65 are worst affected as seen from their rather severe conditions even if they developed initial mild symptoms of COVID-19. However, recently, speaking of vaccinations and boosters, Dr. Koralnik pointed out that 30% of COVID patients develop Long COVID in some form.

Care and Rehabilitation Needs of Elderly Population

This Northwestern study is based on the first 1,300 patients seen at the newly established Northwestern Medicine Comprehensive COVID-19 Center and reveals that patients with Long COVID require further treatment and outpatient care. As revealed in the findings, about 200 of the 300 patients analysed suffered severe symptoms that necessitated hospitalization proving just how enduring the virus is. Dr. Koralnik also pointed out that people with Long COVID at any age should obtain adequate treatment to attend to their needs and enhance their quality of life.

Implications

Regardless, the findings highlighted in this paper show that the current perception of the role that enterprises play in society is a point that deserves more attention. The more young adults in their productive and creative working age develop Long COVID, the more the effects on productivity and inventions. The study highlights the need for social services to help those who suffer long-term health effects of the virus to be able to reintegrate into their communities and be productive, as reported by HealthDay.
